I’ve been trying to write this post for some time now but just never seem to have gotten it finished – tonight I have!
I have a confession to make.
It’s pretty bad.
I’m a tightarse.
Not with everything – but with certain things!
Over a year ago I was at my mentors house doing a live in 9 day intensive marketing and sales training program. I paid $15,000 for it.
One night we are all sitting around on our laptops and something started a conversation that I will never live down – EVER!
I told them about how my poor husband was getting picked on at work for having ham and cheese sandwiches every day. He told them I wouldn’t buy lettuce because it was too expensive.
At this point in the story everyone was it a fit of laughter and I’m going “It was like $5 for a little lettuce, such a rip off so I won’t buy them”.
In perspective I had previously been discussing that I believe jewelry is an investment and that’s why I have around $60,000 plus in diamonds and gold.
It could’ve been a “had to be there moment” – but it’s something I constantly get reminded of “Poor Brock, Emma wouldn’t buy him any lettuce”. I always get told that I leave the BEST parts of the story out – so I may have done that here too if you aren’t laughing at me!
I am that person that goes grocery shopping and looks for the specials. You’ll find homebrand stuff in my kitchen. I buy meat in bulk or multiples of things if they are 1/2 price etc.
Some stuff there isn’t any difference between one brand to the next.
I love bargains with my clothes, most of what I own is from USA that I buy when we travel because it is sooooo much cheaper over there! If you haven’t been shopping in the states…lets just say you are missing out!
My baby is dressed in clothes from Target, Big W and Best and Less.
It’s not that I want cheap and nasty, it’s that I want to know I got VALUE for money.
I don’t pay what’s on the ticket price for TVs, Laptops, Cars. Especially cars. I ALWAYS want the best deal when it comes to those things.
I’m sure you get the picture.
It’s not that I don’t have the money to spend. I do have it sitting there, it’s just that I don’t like wasting money. I see the $300 I can save on my laptop purchase as being $300 going towards our airfares for our holiday. I see the $3000 I saved at the car dealership as being a extra $3000 off one of our mortgages.
What goes around comes around kind of situation.
At the end of the day if I want something, I just buy it and don’t think twice about it. Money’s not tight, I am.
BUT there is one thing that I will NEVER want to get what ever is the cheapest or a great deal and be my usual tightarse self negotiating on prices.
Want to guess what it is?
It’s my EDUCATION. My mentors.
I want THE BEST and only the best!
I know with unwavering certainty that the money that I INVEST with them is going to generate me EVEN MORE MONEY.
The investment is like loose change in my pocket compared to what I can earn from their knowledge.
Not only have they saved me time instead of me trying to figure it all out myself. They’ve saved me my sanity!
It is frustrating being all alone in business. Having someone that’s been there and done it SUCCESSFULLY to show you what to do makes all the difference!
Instead of me trying to do stuff and taking a cheaper option of help and getting half assed results I choose to get the BEST possible advice that I possibly can!
It’s a no brainer that you would want to do it the easier and faster option that struggling all alone trying to figure it out.
The result of INVESTING over $220,000 in my education over the last 5 or so years can be summed up like this:
*Success in my salons and being able to sell one for 6 Figures
* 1st House purchased before I was 21 years old
* 7 over seas holidays in less than 4 years
* 3 Investment properties
* Dream home that we now live in as our “Forever Home”
* Having the freedom of not needing to work a 38 hour week, my husband not needing to be physically broken after working 60 hours a week as a tradie. Him being able to be a stay at home dad and see our baby girl grow up instead of missing out on all the important things because we are working too much.
* Being able to CHOOSE what I want to do instead of being stuck!
I can sum it up in one word.
FREEDOM
The value of having a great Mentor that knows EXACTLY what they are talking about can be the difference between you staying stuck and just plodding along and you taking your business and your life to a whole another level that you didn’t even think was possible.
So stop being a tightarse with your education! It’s the one area of your life and your business that you can’t afford to be stingy!
Get the BEST possible help that you can so that you get the BEST possible RESULTS that you can!
Lesson I hope you learned from this post – JUST BUY THE DAMN LETTUCE FOR YOUR HUSBAND!
